If you've looked at YouTube results in the platform, you may have noticed that each post card shows the video's Title but not its Description, and you might be wondering why, especially if a video matched your search on words that don't appear anywhere in the title you see.
This is expected behavior, and it comes down to how post text is displayed versus how it's tracked. The card is limited to a single line of text, so it shows one value per post. Behind that single line, however, the platform is doing much more: it captures and indexes far more of each post's content than what's visible on the card, which is why your searches can match on text you don't actually see.
Why the card shows the Title
Every post card has one text field available for display. Our system returns a single text value per post, and that field is populated with the post's Title when one is available. The Description is used only as a fallback, when no Title exists. Because YouTube videos always have a Title, the Title is always what appears on the card.
This distinction mainly applies to YouTube and Twitter/X, the two platforms where Traackr tracks a Title separately from the post text. Twitter/X is the one exception: tweets have no title, so the tweet text is displayed instead. Other platforms typically have a single caption field, so this Title-vs-Description logic doesn't come into play for them.
How descriptions are tracked for YouTube
Even though only the Title appears on the card, the Description is still fully captured, stored, and indexed. Keyword and boolean queries run against both the Title and the Description, each with its own relevance weighting.
This means a post can match on words that appear only in the Description and still surface in your results, even when those words aren't visible on the card. If a YouTube video matches a query but the matching terms aren't in the title, the Description is almost always the reason.
Is the Description included in exports?
Not at this time. The post export includes a single "Post Title" column, which mirrors the title shown in the app. There is no separate Description column in the export today.
The Description is available through the Search API (with the appropriate flag), but it is not part of the in-app export.
Summary
Text display follows a simple rule: Title first when available, Description as a fallback only when the Title is empty. For YouTube, the Title is always present, so the Description is never shown on the card, but it remains fully active behind the scenes for search and matching.
