Hi! A brand you're working with has invited you to connect your Instagram account to Traackr. This will save both of you time and effort in screenshotting Stories and manually passing them on afterwards. This short post explains how you'll be able to do this.

Who is Traackr?

We're a marketing software platform based in San Francisco that's been around for 10 years now. We're used by some of the world's largest and most successful brands and agencies who trust us to power their influencer marketing programs.

Why do I need to connect my account?

As Instagram Stories are not shown in your main feed and disappear after 24h, the brands you work with need your permission to be able to capture these so they can see your posts and report internally. It will also save you time in having to let them know when you've posted, and sending screenshots across!

How do I connect?

Your contact at the brand you work with will have sent across a link that takes you to your unique authorization page that will look like this:

If you have more than one Instagram account, you'll be able to select the one you'd like by clicking 'Connect'. 

Note that you must have either a Business or Creator account on Instagram, and have it connected to a Facebook page to be able to connect in this way. You can read more about setting up Creator and Business accounts on Instagram's Help section.

What does connecting my account mean?

By connecting your account to Traackr, it means the brands you work with will be able to see your Instagram Stories and the number of views they got. 

Your brand partners and Traackr will NOT be able to post on your behalf, follow pages, or like or comment on posts or content.

Below are the three permissions required for Traackr to collect your Instagram Stories and their view metrics. While connecting, you may see other permissions listed on the Facebook interface, but only the following ones need to be granted:

  • Access profile and posts from the Instagram account connected to your Page
    This allows access to your public Instagram posts and stories. Traackr uses this permission to access your Instagram stories.
  • Access insights for the Instagram account connected to your Page
    This allows access to a limited number of performance metrics accrued by these Instagram Stories; our clients and your brand partners use these metrics to create performance reports in Traackr. This permission also allows us to set up webhooks: a webhook is a mechanism of notifying apps when a new story is created and when the performance metrics are available.   • Manage accounts, settings, and webhooks for a Page
    This is only needed to get access tokens for the Instagram account connected to the Page.
    This is a permission required by Facebook (see the API documentation), and it is the only method of capturing Instagram insights allowed by the official Facebook API.
    Traackr will NOT be able to see your Page activity, post, follow, like, comment on your behalf, or perform any other actions on your Facebook Page.

Can I un-connect?

Of course. You can un-connect your account from Traackr at any time on your Instagram settings. Note this means your brand partners will then no longer be able to track your Stories. 

Also, the authorization you provide automatically expires every 90 days, so you can also expect your brands to reach out to you to re-connect.

I'm getting an error when I connect

If you're getting an error message, the most likely reason is that either your account is not a Creator or Business one, or if it is, it's not linked to a Facebook page that you own. You can read more about linking to a Facebook page here
