Hi! A brand you're working with has invited you to connect your Instagram account to Studios by Traackr. This will save both of you time and effort in screenshotting Stories and manually passing them on afterwards. This short post explains how you'll be able to do this.
Why do I need to connect my account?
As Instagram Stories are not shown in your main feed and disappear after 24h, the brands you work with need your permission to be able to capture these so they can see your posts and report internally. It will also save you time in having to let them know when you've posted, and sending screenshots across!
What do I need to connect my account?
You will need both an Instagram and a Facebook account.
Instagram accounts must be set up as either Business or Creator accounts. Facebook accounts must be set up as Facebook pages, not profiles.
Your Instagram account must be connected to a Facebook page. Here's an article on how to Add or Change the Facebook page that your Instagram account is connected to.
You can read more about setting up Creator and Business accounts on Instagram's Help section. You can learn more about the differences between a Facebook page and profile, on Facebook's Help section, as well as how to set up a Facebook page.
How do I connect?
Instagram authentication is processed through Studios, our creator collaboration platform. Studios provides creators with a secure and central place to collaborate with brands on campaigns, discover new opportunities, and manage social account connections.
Your contact at the brand you work with will have sent you an invitation to join their Studio which will prompt you to sign up to Studios if you don't already have a Studios account.
Once logged in, you can connect your Instagram account to Traackr by following the steps outlined in this short video:
If you have more than one Instagram account, you'll be able to select the one you'd like by clicking 'Connect' next to the right one in your Social Accounts tab.
What does connecting my account mean?
By connecting your account, it means the brands you work with will be able to see your Instagram Stories and their view and engagement metrics. They will also be able to see the Impression and Potential Reach data on your in-feed posts.
Your brand partners and Traackr will NOT be able to post on your behalf, follow pages, or like or comment on posts or content.
Below are the three permissions required to collect your Instagram Stories and their associated metrics. While connecting, you may see other permissions listed on the Facebook interface, but only the following ones need to be granted:
Access profile and posts from the Instagram account connected to your Page
This allows access to your public Instagram posts and stories. Traackr uses this permission to access your Instagram stories.
Access insights for the Instagram account connected to your Page
This allows access to a limited number of performance metrics accrued by these Instagram Stories; our clients and your brand partners use these metrics to create performance reports in Traackr.
Manage accounts, settings, and webhooks for a Page
This permission allows us to set up webhooks: a webhook is a mechanism of notifying apps when a new story is created and when the performance metrics are available. See details in the Facebook API documentation.
This workflow is the only way of capturing Instagram story insights allowed by the official Facebook API.
Traackr will NOT be able to see your Page activity, post, follow, like, comment on your behalf, or perform any other actions on your Facebook Page.
See our Influencer Privacy Policy to learn more about the way we process data.
Below is a screenshot of the required permissions as seen on the Facebook interface (only the top 3 are required):
Can I disconnect?
Of course. You can disconnect your account from Traackr at any time on your Instagram settings or from your Studios account. Note this means your brand partners will then no longer be able to track your Stories.
Also, the authorization you provide automatically expires every 60 days, so you can also expect your brands to reach out to you to re-connect.
I'm getting an error when I connect
Please see our help article here to troubleshoot authentication errors.
Who can I speak to if I have any questions?
If you have any questions about the connection process, please feel free to contact your brand partner. You can also reach out to the Traackr team directly for any other questions at support@traackr.com.
Please kindly note we created a PDF one-pager as well to help you with the authentication process, essentially a step-by-step guide you can refer to:
